Nooooooo
24 Apr 2006 10:31
Have a nice new oil leak after I changed from Synthetic to Mineral GTX 10w-40. I'm hoping it is from the rpm tach reader thing, and I know for sure it isn't from the Clutch cover because the bike is leaning to one side and all the oil is away from the basket. Maybe I just put too much in.
Were should I start looking? The bike is so dirty I think I am going to pressure wash it today or tommorrow because right now it looks like the leak is everywhere, but it seems to be from the left side of the bike, condensing around the oil pan and left most part of the frame and dripping down. It's not the oil pan screw, I tightened that sucker for sur.

wash it really well, take it for a ride and then lightly dust flour around places where you think it might leak.......then wait a bit and it will show

What's that joke about "Roll 'em in flour and look for the wet spot?"

Good Ole synthetics they will find the smallest spot to seap from.Myself I stay away from synthetic oils for that reason and it played havoc with my started clutch sprag causing to slip and make all kinds of noise and leaks.Just my $.002

It could be coming out of the stator housing.

It's coming out of the left rear cam cover, and maybe somewhere else. Could this be because I put too much oil in the engine?

The cam cover leak is not from an overfill.

Hmmm... don't know about the "Too much oil" thing(don't think so),but You SHOULD make sure that You have the proper amount in the engine.
How do Your cam-cover plugs look?If You're not sure what they are, they're the half-round,black caps on the ends of Your cover/head.Do they look old and have tiny spider-cracks in them?Does it look like the oil is leaking from them,or higher up,at the gasket?

my 1976 kz900 leaks from the tach drive(wich is on top cover)
then it migrates making you think you have a big leak when you don't. look there first.
