It would be cheaper and way better to just sell the 550 and buy a 750 turbo. There's a mint one on ebay right now.

I think I recall a magazine cover with a 550 turbo'd, and I'm sure it was dirt cheap, bolt-on mod.

depends on your definition of cheap!hehe to make the same amount of horsepower with a carbed bike as a turbo bike would cost a small fortune, and you can adjust horsepower on turbo depending on your mood at the time! :woohoo: goodluck, happy wrenching!

Quite honestly you could probably do it for a couple hundred bux. Get a turbo from a dodge stealh or mitsu 3000gt, fab up a turbo header for it, put oil to it and hang a old snowmobile carb on the intake of the turbo and make a manifold for the other end. Run E85 and boost away.. oh don't for get to dial the timing back a few degrees.

Don't worry Wireman, no one said anything about putting a see thru window on the turbo.

Hey it all depends on how much you want to spend. The guy looks like he wants to turbo his 550 and not spend any money. quite honestly look at the Z1rtc or what ever it's called. It's is about as simple as can get. draw thru 38mm mikuni i think. which coincedently is what I sugested this guy do. just becuase there are peopl that sell high dollor turbo kits dosn't meant that they are the only people who can do this stuff. Maybe your not as mechanically inclined as some, but it ain't rocket science. Maybe you misunderstood, but i wasn't trying to tell him how to build the worlds best turbo system either, I was telling him how to put somthing together that would run and make more power than stock with out spending $3500 or whatever a Mr. Turbo kit costs.
Lorcan- when i get the bugs worked out of it i'll sure have dyno scans, prolly lots of em, it just so happens that i'm building a motorcycle chassis dyno.

first off he simply asked what does he need to turbo a 550 and will it hold the abuse where you get he does not want to spend any $$$ from that im not even gonna try to figure out,yes the original draw thru kits were very simple, you suggest takeing turbo's from cars fabbing your own headers, intakes, blah, blah, like doin these things are cheap/easy no its not rocket science but even for competent mechanics this is a tough/expensive job,i did not misunderstand anything you said, i know you were not telling him how to build the worlds best turbo setup, you were telling how to waste alot of time and money on useless parts,as far as my mechanical ability i have built/ridden/own many turbo bikes and yes i have "fabbed" my own parts and made things work that were not factory or store bought.
