Engine Id #
27 Mar 2006 07:26
Wasn't there an Eninge ID # thread in the archives that told what year the engines were made?
I look there and here on the filesbase, but couldn't find anything.
If some one can help me the ID on the Engine is:
KZ650BE074851

Try this
members.home.nl/verbra/models-sm.htm
There used to be a website devoted to 650's but it looks like it has gone under...this is from another site

Here´s a nice 650 site, don´t know if that´s the one you were thinking about, Mcdroid?
jarle.eltelevest.no/Kawasaki/Series/Z/650/z650.htm
NOTE: He mixed up the engine and frame numbers, numbers with an E in them are engine numbers, numbers without an E are frame numbers, other than that it´s great info.
Don´t miss pg. 2 and 3, buttons are at the bottom of the page, right corner.

Thanks.
I just picked up another 650 engine and couldn't figure out the year.
It made me wonder because there was not 3 holes for screws in the center of the stator cover, but it had a kickstart.
It looks to be a 1977B2.
Thanks again!

I already tried buykawasaki.com
The only thing they have for pre-1986 are parts diagrams and manuals 'for purchase'.

Did you get that motor from George in Indy?
If you did it was either a 78 or 79 650SR motor with ~80k miles on it (and almost no compression).
He got it from me

Mario, from the number you posted I´d say it´s a 78 C2, they start at BE043950, 79 C3 starts at BE092001.
The only 650s that have the three bolt holes in the center of the cover are the 77 B1 and C1, they run a different alternator setup (exited field) from the rest of the 650s (permanent magnet) - the three bolts hold the field coil, which a permanent magnet setup does not have.
Apart from the alternator, alt. cover and reg/rec, the rest of the engine is the same and parts will interchange up until the F2 (starting at engine number BE124001) and 80 H models (CSR) where a switch is made to a hy-vo cam chain same as the 750 fours. Up until this switch all the 650s have kickstart.
Edit: Mcdroid, never saw the one you posted before, good one. I have a list from yet another source, it also includes the Z1 and KZ 900 - just uploaded it to the filebase in pdf format, here´s the link:

I bought that motor and a front end with the wheel for $10 on eBay, then drove to Cinnci to get it, but all I really wanted was the drilled dual disk rotors off the wheel and the 2.15" wide SR mag wheel
Yep, it's getting around
