You'll probably have to have yours chrome plated - and yea, it's really expensive. You need "triple plating" for the aluminum parts. Check out chrome pros plating. Good work and reasonable (relatively speaking!). They have a price guide to give you an idea on cost:

Sounds stupid but why would you even consider spending all that money when chrome plating pits after a short while. You can polish all aluminum to look as shiny as chrome yourself. All you need is an electric drill (that spins up to 6500rpm) and go to harbor freight and for 16 bucks you get the kit to polish aluminum to chrome finish and some fine sandpaper to remove scratches etc like 600grit 1200 and 2000 would be good but 600 and then buff using the emory removes the scratches. It doesn't take too much time to get looking shiny. I bought a dremel and between that and my electric drill which is a lot slower than 6500rpms I got all my parts to look just like chrome. You can always touch the aluminum up but when chrome pits you have much more work to do to remove and replate besides the cost. I personally like the way aluminum polished up looks better than chrome. Just my .02

I've got lotta of both chrome and polished aluminum on my bikes and one of my longtime sponsors is a plating company-probably the best and most well known shop in Canada-Platingmaster Chrome in London Ontario. So my opinion is a little biased lol, but I've got chromed engine covers on my dragbike that are 15+ years old. No pitting, no rust and yes they do show some swirl marks from polishing but if you have chrome plating rusting, pitting or flaking off then you need to find a better chrome shop.
79 MKll is correct, triple plate is the best- and plating is really more like bodywork in that prep and cleanliness are very very important. As is the plating process...

i like both also.if its something im driving all the time i like plated aluminum since its a lot easier to maintain.but if its something im only gonna take out when i know the weather forecast a week in advance like my turbo polished aluminum is da bomb, much nicer than plated but your always gonna be polishing it!

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

IMHO, there is absolutely no way to make aluminum shine like chrome.
I actually like the look of polished aluminum better than chrome, and I've paid to have a lot of aluminum polishing done (before I started doing it myself), but it positively "don't" shine like chrome will.

Polished is cheaper and if it loses its shine you just repolish.Chrome retains heat and it will pit and flake eventually.
