Honda pistons for KZ1000

Do any of you guys remember the Honda 500 pistons that fit the KZ? I think you had to hone the stock bore out some and they worked great but gave higher compression. I cant remember for the life of me..

Hmmm...don't know about the piston thing,but I do know that some of the Honda CB starters will fit the KZ's.

First I've heard of pistons though:huh:

I think I remember a bench racing story where the early kz guys used CB450 DOHC pistons,they had to remachine the valve reliefs as the cb had different valve angles.

could be true,could be fiction, mabe someone else will confirm.

I used CB450 3rd over pistons to make 1038 kits for Kaws. Can't even begin to imagine how many hundreds of those kits I made.

OOkaay..cool. A guy I know has a 1000 engine with the Honda pistons in it. This was done years ago and its time for rings.

Hey I'm curious,  did the pistons need cut for valve pockets?

I had a Z1 bored out to 1015cc (70mm). 
That was pre Z1000 and before aftermarket piston kits were available.
It used two sets of Honda CB500T pistons.
They were higher comp than stock when used in the 900 motor but they dropped straight in with no mods needed to the valve pockets or anything..

Plus, XS 1100 Yamaha pistons. I used these a couple of times. Came out to 1060cc on the Kaw 1015 block.

Went thru 25 of these in 40 yrs.
I SOLD OUT! THE KAW BARN IS EMPTY.
