Getting a lift (from the sky crane)
21 Nov 2025 13:41 - 21 Nov 2025 13:43
The Fort Cavazos/Hood vehicle displays are being relocated due to some upcoming construction so I took the opportunity one sunday morning over the summer to sneak a picture with the Z1 sitting underneath our Sikorsky CH-54 Sky Crane. Pretty sure the Z1 won't overload that airframe...

Wouldn't be soo sure MoveOver? You can see just by tethering the Z to the underbelly it's already flattened the tires ha.

I wish I had seen how they re-located it after this. I'm assuming a Chinook came in and slung load it, unless the outriggers are easily removable in which case it could be trailered.
Theres an OV-10 bronco still out there that hasn't been moved yet. I'll have to ask DPW about it..
When I was a company commander at Ft.Knox we made a display pad for a Chinook and it was carried into place by another Chinook.
Neat stuff.

I believe that's the type of Helicopter used in the construction of the CN Tower, in Toronto Canada back in 1975.
I can recall watching with awe.

Re: Getting a lift (from the sky crane)
22 Nov 2025 13:22Seems so. The civilian version is called the S64. The US CH47 Chinook took over the duties of the CH54. I'll tell you, that's a fun aircraft to ride in. It's really fast when it's not carrying anything, and the pilots are a lot more laid back than apache pilots.I believe that's the type of Helicopter used in the construction of the CN Tower, in Toronto Canada back in 1975.

During one of my afghanistan tours, there was a civilian contractor who supplied us using an MI-26. I'll tell you that was a loud aircraft. You could hear it before it came over the mountains. Absolutely spectacular.
