Nick asks if I want to join him on a ride through the Motu road. I don't mind riding on gravel roads so it was on.
The route would take us along the coast on SH2 then turn off to the Motu road which is 35 odd miles of gravel. Back onto SH2 and back along the Waioeka gorge, 45 miles of winding sealed road, and back along the coast home. All up 270ish miles(430Kms)
Left home this morning with the GPz running on three cylinders (was running fine yesterday), limped to the nearest auto parts store and bought a replacement set of plugs, changed them in the carpark, and everything is great again.
So we're on our way (hope the photo appear)

One lane ex rail/Car bridge, now car only with traffic lights. State Highway 2(SH2)

Now for the bit that Nick failed to mention

And finally a scenic stop at the Historic Swing Bridge and waterfall

Left home at 8am and got back at 5:30pm.

Quite a relaxing ride. Wouldn't recommend it for a modern sports bike or anything with a lower fairing. The GPz just kept going, a quite slow compared to an adventure bike, on gravel, but we still made good time. Nothing like riding on gravel to hone those balance and sliding skills.
