Anyone know the status of Angeles Crest HWY?
It's January and it's riding wheather.

Still closed unfortunately.

This is CA-2 what you're referring to, correct?

Yep, A.C.H. is labeled as "CA State Route 2", and a REALLY quick look on the U.S.D.A site www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!u...%20Forest%20-%20Home doesn't list any specifics on if it has been re-opened or not. I'll try to call them later to see if I can talk to a LIVE person and get some info....stay tuned!

The Crest is open with the exception of the front side.La Canada to Angeles Forest Hwy is closed still. Enter though Sunland via Big Tuhunga Canyon.

Any ETA for when it will reopen? Last time I rode that route, I wound up riding a few miles on FRESHLY tarred and chipped macadam. Kinda sucked.

There should be a Caltrans notice on county work... Ran into this type of surface a couple years back on Mines Road in Alameda Co. Gravel so thick at times it's like driving through slush. Plus all the picked up tar and debris is a PITA to clean off. Never mind the pucker on your petunia when both tires have zero traction.

To put the icing on the cake, I lowsided for the FIRST time 150 miles prior to the fresh tar and chip. Looking back, I'm glad I climbed back on and shook it off. I was definitely squirrelier than normal on the tar and chip though.

The road is actually in good condition up to Newcombs. They have completed resurfacing much of Big T. I haven't been there in a few weeks but I generally go up ever other week or so. It also seems like there is less CHP activity which some say is due due the states budget issue.

Is it ok from BigT to Whritewood?

Just heard on the news this morning. ITS OPEN from La Quinada! ITS OPEN!
I rode it last week from the 14 FWY to Tujunga. Nice ride. Trees are still burnt but t he road is good.
