My very good friend had his 50th birthday yesterday. His family planned a surprise party for him at his niece's house which is 39 miles from my house. I decided to ride to the party instead of drive which is kind of nuts right now because yesterday was the coldest day of the season so far. It was in the mid thirties for the ride there, and 27 degrees for the ride home. If you have the cold weather gear it is not that bad of a ride. People looked at me real strange at the stop lights though. The party host and his neighbors turned the sprinklers on so we could have some Florida ice on the ground, and everything was covered in ice when I made my departure for my warm livingroom. Everyone at the party said I was nuts for riding and I just answered that I don't need a Harley to be a biker. There was a Harley guy there that decided to ride in the cage for the night. He even said I was a little crazy. I just told him its the thrill of the ride that makes me happy, no matter what the weather is like. The trip was uneventful as I was totally prepared for the cold. I was not even cold or uncomfortable. I don't have an electric suit or even heated grips. I had fun on my ride, and my fried says I must really value our friendship to do something so stupid (in his eyes anyways). Yesterday was the first time in 20 years that this part of Florida has had sleet. I just wanted to share my ride through the arctic blast. And by the way I would do it again.

If you're crazy then so am I. I rode from my home in the Lower Mainland BC to Duncan on Vancouver Island for lunch with my inlaws on Christmas Day. The temperature was right at freezing. With good windproof gear and a full face helmet it was no problem. It was a Bluebird day and I had a great ride. It may be the last Christmas for my father in law so it will be a ride I'll never forget.

SEIZE THE DAY!!!!!
