3D printed tool tray. was created by KZQ
I've previously looked into 3D printing side covers and found it not to be practical. However something like this tool tray for a KZ1100 Shaft being smaller and more geometric is more easily printed.
Here's the original tray:
And here's the 3D print. This one is PLA and served to check the fit in the bike. The eventual tray will be in ABS.

I would think a small market. Bill is kind enough to let me use the old tray on my bike which was missing the tray with none to be found.
The printed tray looks great!

Here's the bottom with the part number.
When I had an opportunity to contribute something authentic to Cra-z1's beautiful 1100 I offered it to him. The 3D print will do fine in my Spectre.

The test print needed a couple of slight adjustments so Mike, the printer, took the original back to adjust the design. I'll have it and an ABS print early next week.I would think a small market. I suspect this tool tray may fit a 1983 KZ1000R & J models as well.
It's a little wider in the center area, but I think there's room for this.

Possibly Rob,
What's the part number of that tray? It looks as if there's room to grow. If I had that tray to measure the dimensions could be adjusted.
I got the second test print today and despite it having been printed in white ABS, it fit perfectly:
Mike the printer is printing another in black ABS.

Small recommendation:
ABS can get weird with some solvents. Try PETG. It has same amount of “give” as ABS, but is almost solvent proof by comparison.
PETG is same cost as ABS, very very similar temp resistance. It’s also what all(?) plastic gas cans are made of.

You're welcome Cra-z1,
I hadn't realized how much that tool tray had become distorted in just 44 years. Who would've thought?
You sure you wouldn't prefer one of these?
