Ear Plugs?
12 Jan 2026 10:54
Just wondering what you guys use for ear protection while riding? In the past I have been using some I got from my old manufacturing jobs (shop type joined by plastic cord) but I am running out of them. I am considering buying some Moto specific ear plugs, but before I do maybe there are some preferred brands I am not aware of. Anybody want to chime in?

I've been riding with alpine motosafe earplugs, I got the two pack and I mostly wear the black ones that block less noise. They are supposed to mainly block the more damaging sound frequencies so I can still hear some with them, convenient for drive thrus or park gates if nothing else.

+2 on foam ear plugs
I have purchased fancy ribbed ones in their own special containers. Never got comfortable with them. But the foam plugs dampen air & wind noise while allowing me to hear just the right amount of my engine and exhaust. And, when rolled between fingers, inserted, held in place for 10 seconds while foam expands fill my ear canal just right. The nice dense foam ones from a variety of retailers. I don’t like the corded ones due to hard peg in the middle and less dense foam.

We used custom-molded ear plugs (speaker / plugs) that have speakers in them, that have 3.5mm hardwired plugs, mated to jacks on our old Cardo Scala 9x comms for over 10 yrs. Very quiet with excellent, music-grade sound quality. When the NLA waterproof plastic button covers on the 9x's deteriorated, perforated & leaked after 10+ yrs. and about 90K miles, we replaced them with current Cardo Packtalk Neo comms.
The Neos aren't easily compatible with the 3.5 plugs, so we installed the included JBL speakers in our helmets & started looking for & testing modern earplugs.
Foamies block too much sound for good voice clarity using helmet speakers. We bought two sets of Earpeace Moto and Moto Pro earplugs that claim to filter damaging frequencies while passing useful (voice) frequencies. Voice clarity is good enough. Nowhere close to our molded speaker / plugs, but comm intelligibility is satisfactory. The filters are interchangeable with three included sizes of ribbed silicone plugs. Wind noise is nicely attenuated, with motor / exhaust / traffic sound more apparent than with our molded speaker / plugs or foamies.
The Lovely Z1BEBE hung up her keys a couple years ago & rides pillion these days. If I take off on a joyride alone I usually use a helmet sans comms, so I just uses foamies.
