Good Mechanic was created by telemanvt
Hi, I'm a member from Rutland, Vermont and would like to ask the members if they have any info on a good mechanic here in Central Vermont that I could use for work on my 1979 KZ650SR. It would be great to find someone who can work on an older bike and is familiar with them.
Thanks!

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I suspect you won't find many mechanics who work on vintage bikes. Most of us do our own maintenance and repairs. Your bike is fairly simple and you can do much of the work with a few simple tools and a service manual.

Welcome ! There are many members here who know these bikes inside out and have the answers if (when) you feel you're in over your head. Don't be afraid to dive in.

You could try contacting Gardner Racing Concepts over in Ellsworth, Maine. If there is such a mechanic near you, they probably know. I think their only online presence is on fakebook now.
As mentioned above, most folks with older bikes do nearly all of their own work. In most cases, this is out of necessity, but it also insures that some jerk water “mechanic” does not cut corners or cheat you like crazy. Also, the more you know about how the machine is supposed to work, the more quickly you will be able to detect something amiss.

Though I do keep my own machines up and running like most responded. I have no personal knowledge with any repair shop in your location. I did a quick online search and found sites that claim to work on our older machines. This one appears to be a race shop that does work on older machines. If nothing else it would give you a contact in you area.
