KZ1000A? A2A? What the heck is this?

Looks like will be picking up two bikes tomorrow.

This is a 1978 KZ1000 but what designation is it? Ive already started looking for a seat for it.

1977 Kawasaki KZ650B

Looks like a Z1 tail. Turn signals all wrong, no air box.

he put the airbox back in and yeah the turn signals arent stock.

Are you implying that only the tail is a KZ1000 and that i may be being duped?

KZ 900/1000's had reflectors on the tail light lense and the tail is squarish on the top like the lense.

Right but thats not a direct answer to the question of whether you were implying it may not be a true Z1000..

Anyhow, he has the title and all the paperwork.I will check for matching numbers. Should all be in order, i will put BACK the original tail lights but I wont have any on the front, at all.

Without the frame VIN, it appears to be a 1977/1978 KZ1000 (AKA A1 or A2 (or maybe A2A) model)...

Front caliper behind the forks is 1978. Whether A2, or A2A hard to say. A2A was just the later 1978 production with tighter emissions standards and could be bought in black paint. Some other differences too. I believe the A2A came wirhout the headlamp switch, where the A2 you could switch the headlight on manually. Of course original paint is long gone on this bike.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I say 77 KZ 1000, could be a 78 but would have to have the vin to know. The give away is the rear footpeg hangers. I've only seen those on 77's but not saying they didn't make 78's with them. Definitely not a Z1,

I have a 77 kz1000 frame that appears have the same peg hangers as my 78
