Wrapping the pipes can cause them to rust since the wrap can trap moisture between the wrap and the pipes. Ed

I'm assuming that you wrapped them because they're already rusted. Any Chance?
Typically pipes are wrapped to prevent the pipes from giving up too much heat in locations where it can cause problems. I suppose if you live in a hot climate wrapped pipes would reduce the heat you're exposed to while on the bike.
