Great article, but didn't KZ1000 production start in 1977 rather than 1978?

Don't forget, the "model year" manuf usually starts 3-4 months into the end of the previous year.. Manuf: 10-77 would be sold as a a 78.

Understood, but it seems like KZ1000 production started in September 1976 to support the 1977 "model year". Not that it matters a whole lot.

Yes it is a good article and these are the points that make KZ900's and KZ1000's so attractive to me.
