Hi KzRiders

Today I bought a bike at auction for $100.00. I realized it is a Z1000. Looking at the vin and engine number my guess is that it might be a Z1000A, not sure. Clearly it has been modified no doubt.

Vin No: KZT00A091550
Eng. No: KZT00AE615623
South Africa

Thanks to KZRIDERS for a wonderfull web site.

Definitely bodywork from a MKII, 79 or 80, my bet is 1980. The bike has definitely been modified, and looks like it has parts from several years and models on it, but my best guess is mostly a 1980 KZ1000 MKII - a nice find. I think the MKII is the best looking of the early KZ1000's (pre '81), even nicer lines than the Z1R, and equal to the GPz and ELR in looks. They make great starting points for wicked custom sport bikes.

Check out (Google it) AC Sanctuary's MKII builds for how awesome one of these can be...if you have deep pockets, that is.

Side panels look like 78 Z1R, which are very rare and expensive...engine timing cover appears to be from an 81 and up KZ1000 or KZ1100.

You might want to double check the VIN numbers as both the frame and motor VIN are way out of range for the Z1000 (1015cc) series.

My 1979 KZ400B2 has part numbers molded into the inside of the side covers; that's how I know they're actually for a KZ400D. Well that, and they don't fit 100%.

Maybe Doc has part numbers on his bike's side covers too.

Great score,welcome to the site

This is the best I could find, I think you have a 79 but your numbers exceed the ones in this file

www.z1enterprises.com/store/model/kawasa...rge-4-s/kz1000-77-81

Maybe a location thing?

Also Z1Enterprises is a parts store that a lot of us use so if you find your bike on the list you can click on it for what they have available for that model

Thanks for the post, Kawasaki South Africa got back to me this morning. The numbers are 100% correct, it is South African vin and engine numbers. It is a KZ1000 MK2 1980 model. It does seem like the bike is a bit of a bastard with all different parts on it, bit at least the numbers correspond. Now the question is should I bring it back to Original or keep it as is? Im leaning a bit towards original.
