Help with Rear shocks
02 Apr 2016 11:03
Hello.I found a good deal and I was curious if I could put kz1000 shocks on my kz550A if there the same "eye to eye" I'm about 230lbs and have a passenger once or twice a week if that matters. Thank you for any help you can send my way.

If those are the stock KZ1000 shocks they are ancient and most likely are shot; in fact, the stock KZ shocks were pretty awful even when they were new. I recommend you buy a new set of quality shocks instead. Ed

I have the stock style shocks I bought in 13 I took off to put on my duel rate ones. They work and don't leak. They just aren't as good as the newer ones. PM me if you're interested. They look like these.

06 Apr 2016 23:43Then you not only need new shocks but springs loaded well above stock range (or adjustable springs you can crank up high enough). When I bought new progressive gas charged rear shocks, there was a whole range of springs you could select from.Thunderbike550 wrote: Hello.I found a good deal and I was curious if I could put kz1000 shocks on my kz550A if there the same "eye to eye" I'm about 230lbs and have a passenger once or twice a week if that matters. Someone here on KZR said these were good/decent shocks. paraphrasing.
Kawasaki KZ650 KZ650LTD KZ650CSR 13.25" CHROME SHOCKS
Another option is to get the shocks from a HD Sportster. HD guys would get lower shocks & sell the stockers on eebbaayy for cheap. mint, like new, or vg cond wasn't uncommon. You'll have to swap out the bushings. easy. and spread out the lower shock mounts on the swing arm. or grind down the shocks 2-4 mm. The sportys might rub the chain guard a tad. nothing significant. a quick search. there could be more & possibly cheaper.
Sportster Shocks OEM Harley-Davidson Shocks From 2000 XL883 . a fairly common comment from the description. "I bought the bike new, rode a few hundred miles and replaced these with an aftermarket set.". or get a good used set for real cheap.
I test fit a set of sportys on my 650 a few years ago. I have no idea how they'd fit the 550.

I found a pair of those ones in black for $90 new I'll probably grab. There's no more chrome on my bike and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't race or anything like that. I just ride to work so I don't need anything special.
Thanks for all the help everyone. Will I have to adjust the front suspension to even everything out? Or can I just bolt these on one at a time and be good to go. Test out each setting and find the one that's the most comfortable for me

I have progressive springs up front with 15W oil. Works great. I may get some emulators later.

You'd be better off buying them new. I got them at Z1E for $80. No hurry to sell them'
