AND (not throwing my own bike under-the-bus) let's tell the truth: in '83 the CB1100F was a distant 3rd in a 3 bike race in the open-bore class in it's day. The GPz1100 and GS1100 were brutal bitches that wore the ass outta the CB. But the CB has a special place in my heart, and soon in my garage ... and 'yes' GPz1100s and GS1100s give me wood, too. :woohoo:

Spoke to Blitzkraig this afternoon and the CB will be done relatively soon. Brake pads, fork seals, a bit of fettling with the carbs to finalize the bottom-end crispness (daily driver, remember), and he is in the midst of diagnosing a charging problem (says he's not worried about that), and a new set of tires. Likely going with Parelli Sport Demons; I've only heard positive feedback about them and Blitzkraig recommends them. So, a couple hundred bucks to spend and should be good-to-go. Pics are comin', but it's the holiday weekend ... not holding my breath.

I think its our duty to keep some of these bikes on the road. Too many are getting chopped up for the latest fad, and while I dont begrudge anyone that, I dont like it either. Finding a stock old bike actually being ridden regularly in my neck of the woods is very rare. I'm going to keep my CB as stock as possible and hopefully running well for many years to come.
I joined up on the Honda site, but theres very little value over there for me. I have a service manual, and many years with a old Kaw under my belt. Every question I asked over there so far I answered on my own before anyone chimed in. I'm already active on two great Kawasaki forums, so I dont think I'm going to go to all the trouble of being a regular over there.

Those old Honda's were nice bikes. I would love to have one myself.

T_Dub: yeah man, you have it exactly right about the 'other guys'. Since the 80s was really 'my' era, the stock visual lines of that generation of bikes has always appealed to me. I won't change the bodywork, but I might have to do something about the wheels and suspension. I can't give up that 80s UJM seat either!!! WTF are the manufacturers thinking! Those seats are the BEST ... my wife loves that thing and I ain't blamin' her!
LarryC: thanks man! Yeah, if it weren't for that goooooofy double cam-chain thing I think the big CB might have held it's place in performance history along-side the KZ and GS ... but alas, too much Honda over-engineering and it is what it is. Still, I have a soft spot for the things. At the end-of-the-day: it ain't green, but it ain't too bad.
Stay tuned fellas ...

Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I know.
We'll see; Blitzkraig is leaving for Hawaii on Thursday; gonna go get his mo-jo on, try his hand at surfing, and see a good friend. Should be back in a week. In the mean-time I'm scrounging up about $350 for the tires, seals, and pads and get it on the way. When he gets back maybe I can have it all at his door ... timing.

Re: Coming to MY garage

Gotta give that bike a shout man.
Even in my short career on bikes, I've had a case of the 'H'. Bought a CB750 for my dad while I was still riding my old 440LTD. Figured one day soon he would get tired of it, and I could swipe it from him, and start stripping it down into a big cafe racer.
At present, it is still in his garage, and now sports lovely sissy bars, a big 'ol fairing, and some other ugly old man stuff. In short, I'm not getting it handed down any time soon. *lol*
Its a nice bike, and as has been mentioned here, is freaking bulletproof. He's had it longer than I've had my 650, and has had fewer maintenance demons than me.
Still, all that said, my KZ650 will shut that thing down pretty quick, in spite of his displacement advantage, so.... there is something about being green, i think.
Cheers,
Jon

Thanks John,
Yeah, you'll NEVER get me to say anything bad about green bikes; they're my first love.
Now, I'm just going to wait for all the 'boys' around this place to throw me under-the-bus because some guy with a KZ650 had to go and chime in about it!
[the running-joke is: that's the only bike that I want-but-don't-have!)

Blitzkraig (the uber mechanic) advises that the bike is DONE. Wooo-hoooo! However, we are several hundred miles apart and have diverging schedules. Plan is to go get the beast over Labor Day weekend and bring it home. But MAN has there ever been a slew of little 'fixes' that he had to do. Besides the new tires and fork seals and the general stuff you know you're gonna have to do, the electrical threw a fit and it's now got a new rectifier and a new rotor (can you believe that?). Ended up putting a 900F rotor on it (which is a bit heavier) and although it slowed the revs a touch it smoothed out the little buzz that had been blurring the mirrors ... now crystal clear! And just a whole, whole, WHOLE bunch of schtuff that he dialed in. Ignition switch and all electrical connectors rebuilt (because they needed it). Anywho, here's a pic of how it looks at the moment. Again, over winter, imagine the factory blue paint with CBR 6-spoke white wheels ... and the CRs installed. Pretty cool ... for a Honda.
