1/4 mile times.
18 Feb 2011 19:26
Hey I have a few questions I'm hoping I can get some answers. I have a 1978 kz 1000 its lowered and it has a vance and hines pro side winder with stock carbs and gearing. I was wondering what kinda 1/4 mile times I could get with it tunes perfect? What gearing should I have for 1/4 mile? I weigh about 175. I took off about 30lbs of chrome and other little things not need. What is the fastest it could run with a very good rider on it? Thank you

Between 11.3 & 11.8 @ 111 to 115 mph depending on gearing

what size tire/wheel?
i run 16/40(530) gearing on my 1327 with stock chassis and 3" over swingarm as low as i can get it with old kerker header my best time last season was a 6.18 114-115 at our little 1/8 mile track with no bar and my 205lb fat ass hanging over the bars trying to hold it down for first 100' slipping the clutch.

You're got going to run 11s unless you are Pee Wee Gleason. My guess is a good running KZ1000 relatively stock with a 175lb rider you may break into the 12s barrier, but barely. 12.80-90 would be my guess. I'd be surprised if it was faster than that. With lower gearing you may get to 12.50
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Tell us more about the bike. Is it completely stock, other then the pipe? The biggest question, what skill level, rider are we talking about?

Its stock except the header and its lowered it has struts on the rear. Its got k&n air filters. It has the 18 in spoke wheerl on the rear and 19 inch spoke wheel on the front. Its stock gearing now but I plan to change it. And pretty exsperienced rider. I'm also wondering the time differences the an inexsperienced rider might run on the same bike
