Too good of a deal to pass up?(Now With Pictures)
19 Dec 2010 14:43 - 20 Dec 2010 17:35
At the risk of being crucified as a traitor, I'll ask for anyone's experience with a Suzuki GS750. I was walking down to check the mail today, and one of my neighbors who has seen me tooling around on my KZ1000 approached me about buying his old bike. He takes me back to his storage shed an unveils a 1980 GS750L that is 100% complete and in very good condition. No rust pits in the chrome, no dents and it's sitting on a brand new set of Metzlers. Says it needs a battery, fresh tank of gas, and oil change to hit the road. Odometer reads 54,000 miles. $300 with a valid Texas title.
So waddya think? I have read that the zooks suffer from some charging issues, but I don't know what else to look for. I'm not interested in a total teardown at the moment. If I buy it, I want it to be a good cheap knockaround bike without too much cash outlay. It might get a little customization down the road, but my Kawis come first. Assess.

you gotta buy clean 300 dollar bikes...if it is a runner and can be reg for under a 100 and running for under 100...
is he gonna hate you if you ride by while he is mowing the lawn??/
is he gonna hate you if you sell it in spring to fund the
kz addiction?
54000 can be no big imo
some suzukis had great internals and show little to no wear when cracked open

I doubt that he will hate me either way. He's got a newer Vulcan, that he rides normally. I know he's out of work so he could probably use the cash.
Brandy already said to go get it. Merry Christmas! I mean, I can't loose on a $300 runner, can I? I don't see how I could loose money. Even if I ran it back and forth to work for a month and it blows the motor, I could part it out for more than $300. I think I'll have at least one sleep, and go hit the ATM tomorrow. He said he wasn't actively selling it, and in no hurry. I told him that I was interested, but may have to wait until the new year. Maybe I'll surprise him and put some cash in his pocket tomorrow.
I hear the zooks are supposed to handle fairly well, and they have good power for a 750.

The GS750's are a very nice bike. Nimble compared to the KZ1000 - and peppy enough to be fun to ride on the back roads.

Buy it, enjoy it for a while, flip it for cash...or use it to try and lure non-riding friend or family member into the motorcycle world

Don't hesitate...buy it. Get up on
www.TheGSResources.com
and read about the charging issues...nothing too large to worry about. I wish I had a neighbor with a bike to drop in my lap :(
