Re: $200 KZ 900. should get it?
08 Nov 2010 21:08 - 08 Nov 2010 21:10Sell the early no rib carbs for a $1000. This means you have the early vacumm port cylinder head. Sell the cylinder head for full potential!
Are the carbs really worth $1000??? jesus christ! They are in beautiful shape, clean, everything moves freely, internally and externally these carbs are extreamly well kept.
They werent on the bike when i got it, they were in a box. The intake ports were sealed up thank god.

Looks to still have the original clear plastic coated clutch and brake levers, which are themselves likely worth a small fortune.

very nice find
awesome bike...you would be nuts to separate any original parts off that bike.
Replace them with aftermarket if they are rough but hang onto them in case you sell it someday.
Like someone has already stated, it will be worth more with all the original parts.
I just picked up a 75 for 700 and getting pumped to start working on it.

Get a good seat, clean off the corrosion and stuff it would look pretty cool. Don't do what you did to that last 650 is all I pray.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

do nothing....do nothing to it....do nothing to it....
plan...consult......watch ......look at other low number restorations and what they final bid at....look at the detail and length they went to replace the smallest rubber nipple....think some more....plan........then spend each dollar only once and get the correct part....you have the King........
you probably have a 5000-6000 dollar bike as it sits right now....

Hey it turned out pretty good i thought. thing ran awsome!
Ive been researching costs of parts for this Z1, bluebook values, ebay bikes, ect.......Its all high dollar shit. As of right now im just polishing up the aluminum, and cleaning all the grime off of everything to reveal what is underneath.
I am going to buy some working original used coils to put on it and see if it runs, the old ones are fubar. the points are brand new though so it will spark with working coils.

you are a lucky bastard in two different ways.
#1
you just bought the king for pennies on the dollar.
#2
your lucky i was not closer to it. i would have given him two or three times his asking price to own it.
damn good score man!
i'm happy for you and i'm glad you ain't going to part it out.
i'm also a little jelouse.

there is a decent chance folks here may have the little things you need...i have a 73 -z-1 in parts and will one day assemble it...but i know for sure there are little things that i may have 3 times or or double of and i would be happy to send soem your way if ever get back in my shop.....
list little things you notice and some good KZR's may send you an early x-mas present....one z-1 coil without the z-1 may be better sent your way.....peace....
by do nothing i for sure did not mnean dont clean it up...clean it up.....but print a few pics on a scanner in case you lose your computer files...the red seat and the dirt and grime are a pricless part of this bikes demise and resurrection...and a key point to it's eventual restored value..imo...clean by all means.......
this is a great lead for us other kzr's they are still around and there must surely be many more yet to surface
this year i saw just among members
numerous 100.00 gpz's
a few original 73 z-1's fro under 300
a 83 kz1000r for 11-1200? Tims friend
My MKII A-3 for 600
95.3 a.m easy listening got the gpz basket case with a cal fab and bassani and more for a deal....
heck the other day i got a rare 1975 made on date, new condition kerker with tags and stickers on it for 237.00 original paint no dents...
you scored and offer incentive to check all local sales hourly .....
keep the pics coming and list the things it needs...
oh and start saving for some 4 into 4's they will kick it up over the 11.000 resale scale when installed.....
