Universal luggage rack and saddle bag standoffs.
16 May 2010 22:45
Hope this is the correct area for this question.
I want to put a luggage rack onto my son's KZ440 LTD.
Does anyone know if there is a universal rack available or if there is anywhere I can still get a rack that fits the 440?
We also have some saddle bags that we want to add but need the frame that holds the bags away from the wheel.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Andy

Ebay is probably gonna be your best bet for the luggage rack. You might get lucky and find someone still making them but ebay would be my first choice.
As far as the saddlebag brackets go you could fab up something.

Old K&G luggage racks come up for sale on ebbaayy regularly. They're universal fit & are listed in innumerable ways with the title Honda luggage rack being rather common. The shock mounts on them slide in & out and there's a width adjustment at the forward part of the rack. Here's one...
...
...
Edit - additional info: They're installed in place of the frame grip (grab bar) & you'll probably have to fab up some brackets where they attach near the turn signals. Also, they come w a variety of shock mount arms... I believe the curved type might be a better fit than the angular type in the photo. The sissy bar is removable.

I found an old K&G carrier at a local shop. Not sure but first look seems like I can make it work.

I am 3 hours east of toronto...I was planning on selling the saddlebags as a whole, but if you can use the brackets alone then you can have them for 20 bucks + shipping. I can send you pics if you want. They aren't the prettiest, but perfectly functional.
or you can have the brackets and shoei hard bags for 40 plus shipping...
