1979 MK2, new paint
25 May 2009 00:16 - 25 May 2009 00:30
Earlier this year I sent my MK2 body parts to Sabatini Autowerks for paint. For those of you that don't know him, Arai59(known as Greg for the rest of this post)is the owner of this business.
Greg was having trouble matching the luminous blue due to lack of paint samples. So, in exchange for sending him all my mk2 body parts for sampling, Greg repaired everything, installed the decal kit and painted them for free!
I don't want to over simplify what Greg did. Luminous blue is a complex color that requires more than just scanning and replicating. I don't know what's involved in reproducing this paint but I do know the paint that was on my bike, that was in good shape, took on different colors depending on the light. Anywhere from brilliant blue to black. This is exactly how it looks now.
When I sent these parts to Greg they where dinged, dented, scratched and scraped and the paint on the tank was faded to purple. I would have to say that the paint and body work now is perfect.
Greg, you did a fantastic job on this stuff. Your work is second to none! Thank you.
I still don't have a great picture of my bike with the new paint job but here are a few pics for now.
A before and after pic.

Tony, beautiful MKll. The blue is my fav this week...where did you get the stripes/decal kit that the painter applied for you? I've seen them for the 74/75 Z1's but never for MKll's. Again, nice job.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with my new look.
Jack,
As Mark posted the decal came from Reproduction Decals. I also purchased new badges from them for the side covers and tank.
