Blown motor

A friend of mine was riding around on his 1996 FZR 600 the other night when he felt a huge 'explosion' from his lower end and looked down to see oil all over his left leg. Seems like he has a huge hole in his motor now!! He actually was able to ride the bike home (couple blocks) and parked it in his garage. Without looking at it yet I'm guessing he blew a rod and shot it in to the lower unit. So, my questions are(I know this isn't KZ related) - What other size and years motors will fit? Where can I find that info? Where can I find a motor? I thought at one point someone had posted a list of salvage yards and websites or phone numbers. I can find that list. Any ideas? Thanks, in advance, for any help.

If you can find a local bike salage yard they are mostly on locator service nowadays. They should be able to find you something.

My buddy and I finally got his FZR back on the road!! Did my first valve clearance adjustment! BTW - Do that while the motor is out of the bike on the stand. I'm guessing that would have been much easier. It still needs a little fine tuning but it is on the road! My question now has to do with the throttle return. Before the engine blew he could turn the throttle and let go and it would return. Now it seems to stick. We have checked and it doesn't seem to be rubbing at the grip. Is there a way to adjust this? Is there a spring to replace? Seems to simple but we can't figure it out.

Spray some lube into the cable until it drips out the other side and see if that helps.
