To the KZ1000r guys

If I wanted to do a clone of the Eddie Lawson ELR bikes, what are the bikes of choice. I think I'm on the right track with the 80-82 j's, and the 80-82 Gpz1100's.

Also, what are the hardest parts to score regarding doing the replica conversion.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You pretty much have the bikes correct...1981/2 KZ1000J1/J2 can still be had...the 1983 J3 was a Canadian-only model that I have never seen for sale. If I found one, I'd keep it stock. The 1981/2 KZ1100B1/2 can also still be had and the advantage is that the tanks are the correct shape (still have to plug the pressure relief valves, though)...you'd have to replace the J model tanks w/GPz tanks to achieve the ELR look...unless you went with the original pre-S1 race bike look (see www.kz1000r.com BOTM). From a cosmetic viewpoint, the GPz and ELR are similar. Swap to CV carbs on the GPz's, paint, decals, emblems, similar Kerker's (US$500-600 on eBay), similar rear shocks (US$150-500 on eBay)...and you are pretty much there:)
