Stupid Honda's
18 Dec 2008 14:48
Well I just got the engine back together in my hateful little CB400. What a crock of shit that bike is. Fights you every step of the way, not like my beautiful Kawasaki. I'll be surprised if it runs in the spring, I'm not touching it again till then, thats for sure. I hate the little bastard, can't wait to sell it.
Rant over.

honda isnt a bad bike, i got one for free a few month ago. Its a 1975 cb 750 i think.....why cant i get an old kawi for free?? Anywho, i did some work on the honda for my neibhors cousin, i cleaned the carbs, new points, a battery, and installed a nos vintage 4 into 1 kerker he had for it long story short he didnt have the money so he came and took the bike when i wasnt home. Got a call a few weeks later, he attempted to install new coils and reversed something so he burned them out, so his wife freaked and told him to get rid of it. He showed up to my house with the bike and title and said it was mine, i put an extra set of green dynas i had laying around on and she fired over on the first try, so i have been riding that while my 900 is getting a rebuild

It was the engine what made me mad, its just a hard thing to work on, the stupid balancer assembly is so hard to get set up properly. And getting the engine in the frame is torture since theres no bottom rails.
And whats with the stamped steel wheels? Low budget items those, and I think they came ont he cb750's too.
I only bought it for $100, got about $400 into it including the purchase price, not a bad investment assuming she'll start in May when I go to try.

Heck that's nothing, I paid a lot more than that for my 750 and have probably put twice what I paid back into it getting it rideable and according to the ad i was supposed to be able to "ride it off the lot" :laugh:I only bought it for $100, got about $400 into it including the purchase price, not a bad investment assuming she'll start in May when I go to try.

I'm hoping the new Hondas are better. I liked the 70s Honda, but had to be a CB550, 750 or that fabulous CBX. OK, the CBX probably wasn't fabulous, but they are a mighty handsome hulk. 1981-83 had the CB900F then the 1100F. The nighthawk S was pretty neat too around 1984 or so. I'd like those too. The 400s never did anything for me except maybe the 4 cylinder model just for the looks. Honda had some real dogs like the CX500, CB360 and later all the V4s like the early Interceptors were a real piece of crap. I started thinking Honda did no testing, just designed on paper, put into production and into the hands of the consumer and the whole process took only a couple months from inception to sales. Lots and lots of problems in the 80s and I lost all faith in them. I have that 84 Goldwing my dad bought new and it's had lots and lots of problems. My dad spent many a day on a bus ride home instead of the goldwing over the years.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I dunno if the came on the cb 750's or not, mine has some type of cast wheel up front, and a 16 inch harley wheel in back.

Am guessing he refers to Comstars. While not the most attractive, they were, true, and lighter than mags of the period. unfortunatly that and the mention of balancer means it's not a cb400f. the only 400 Honda I would have intrest in.
