Don't believe everything you hear.
10,400 were made for North America
zedder.com/Info/81%20KZ1100-B1%20GPz.htm
Bunch of owners here on KZR.
eBay
Z1 Enterprises
Ron Ayers
APE
Schnitz Racing (GPzInfested went there yesterday and was impressed).
Bike Bandit (appropriately named)
Old Bike Barn
And there's a bunch more.

Nice link OnkelB...I had not thought to look in Wikipedia for info on early GPz's. The comparative info is clearly presented and appears to be correct.

I guess one thing that I am trying to get at is I do see anyone singing any praises of the this model bike. I like to strive from the norm and I am very interested in this bike and like to learn all that I can. Wish I could have the bike here NOW. Thanks this site is the best forum for these bikes by far, keep up the good work, two wrenches up in my book!

Generally speaking, if you have a 1981 GPz1100 w/FI up and running in 2008, it is definitely a keeper. Those complaints re FI usually occurred within the first few years of production...other complaints about excessive oil consumption were valid, but as long as the PO watched their oil levels, this condition had no effect on performance, didn't foul plugs, etc. Phrased another way, you bought a survivor of a classic trend-setting bike...ride it, don't hide it....I'm in the middle of a total FI replacement and top end freshening on my 1982...I can't wait till it's done:)

I had a 1982 GPZ1100 I bought brand new 3-82 and covered 24,000 miles in 17 months I owned it. Fuel injection never did work all that well even on the 1982. Also both the wheels were out of round and replaced under warranty. Top end rebuilt twice under warranty. Stator burned up 1500 miles from home, but was enough to keep the engine running for 3500 miles till I got home with push starts. Fork seals went bad, cam end plugs always leaked. Black chrome pipes took a lot of work. I think 1981 had flat black that was even more work. That bad stuff being said, I flat loved this motorcycle and frequently dream of owning another.(Not kidding I really dream GPZ1100 once in a while that I still have mine sitting here). The good points were it was the most comfortable road bike ever. That dual density seat, sensible riding position and the new rubber mounted engine was fantastic on the road and I could get 50mpg when it was new, later went to 45, then 40, but what the heck. I loved it but found the 1979 KZ1000MKII and sold the GPZ. One bad point back then was the GPZ1100s sold on the Kawasaki $1cc rebate so resale value was nil thanks to that. You could buy new ELR or GPZ1100 for $3500 or less. The KZ1000 is 10 times better motorcycle, but I still love the GPZ.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
