I think I've done it!

I think I've finally done it, created the perfect KZ650. Earlier this week I finally got my 80 650F to the point where I could ride it. It had aftermarket mufflers with no baffles so it was stupidly loud and had the expected mid-range flat spot. I'd already decided to install the stock stainless steel exhaust from a 2002 ZR7 that had been on my 77 650 C-1 but I was waiting on some gaskets I ordered from Z-1 Ent. on Monday. I got my order on Wenesday and because it was raining yesterday I didn't have to go in to work.

In between rain showers I got it installed with some help from my neighbor Skullroses. Once I had the header portion installed I started it up with the can still off. It was quieter and the throttle response was much better. Then I put the can on, it was like the bike went into stealth mode. Now the bike just pulls smoothly when you twist the throttle and goes. I told Skullroses to take it for a spin around the block and when he pulled back into the drive I couldn't even hear the bike until it was within 15 feet of me.

Since I still haven't gotten around to cleaning the fuel tank I decided to just rob the custom flame painted tank and covers from the C-1.

This is a pic of the exhaust and paint that I installed.
