82 1100 Spectre next door for $2200
12 May 2008 18:48 - 13 May 2008 14:42
My neighbor has a 82 1100 Spectre with 13k miles on it sitting in front of his house with a for sale sign on it. Walked over and checked it out and it's in pretty decent condition. Found out it's actually his brother's though, his brother runs a KZ1000 based car tire dragbike at the strip.
I seem to recall that there have been a couple of people posting here that said they'd really like to find one, so I figured I'd let you all know. Doubt if it will last long.
If you're seriously interested in buying it, contact me and I'll give you the owners phone number.
Edited to say it's a Spectre, not a Zephyr, blame my ignorance of the big motors

those are pretty sweet. I don't think you can get a wiseco kit for them though. My friend had a 750.. I remember it being much faster than my kz650.. It seems all the parts on em are what some of us are doing to our Kz's too..

Yea if its a ZR has to be 1992 or newer. In 82 we had the GPZ1100 or KZ1100 shaft. I was buying a new motorcycle every year back in the mid 80s-early 90s mostly because I hated every one of them immediately after buying it. I test rode a brand new ZR1100 back in 1992 and after 5 miles I knew it would suffer the same fate so back to the dealer. Thanks, but no thanks. An "updated" version of the KZ1000 basically, with "updated" meaning all the good attributes of the 1000 were gone. No more chrome, no more good seat, no more grab bar so no luggage could be tied on, wide low profile stupid modern tires ect, ect. No way it would work for me sadly, but thankfully I never sold any of my old bikes, just the new garbage year after year. Just another of my rare opinionated posts, sorry

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Ron, if it wasn't for your "rare opinionated posts" you wouldn't be no fun at all!
At least you don't pull your punches, you tell it like it is
My neighbor said it was an 82, but he rides a Harley so he's probably wrong
I just sent GPzInfested down to take a pic of it and I'll post it here when he gets back.
I'm a 750 guy, pretty ignorant when it comes to the big bikes. I hear the Turbo so GPzInfested is back.
Edit:
Here it is, it's a Sceptre not a Zephyr (first post edited). So now you have to start all over with your opinions. What say Ron? Good bike or not? Worth $2200?
I have more pics, large 1600x1200 size if anyone wants them e-mailed.
.
Hmm, I have a set of Wiseco 1105 pistons, and a set of GPz1100 cams, superbike bars and have the seat redone to raise the front a couple inches, got me thinking now

I always kind of liked those, but never rode one, so I guess can't shed too much opinionism on it.

Aw crap, I was really hoping you had an opinion on it (see my last edit below the pic).
Just got back from a ride to visit friends, and after giving it more thought I realized that I really should concentrate on finishing my current projects instead of acquiring more stuff. And the shop is full of bikes already
But I have been known to backslide :silly:

I had this one a few years ago. Paid $400 for it and sold it for $1700 if I remember right. Here is a link to a sound clip of it running. Strong running bike but $2200 is for sure on the high end. $1500-1800 would be more like it.

I support Kawtoy on his valuation estimate...$2200 is too high...$1500 may be more in line with reality...but then again, things are bringing crazy money lately...the seller may actually get that.

If I was going to buy it (and that's not going to happen, got to many projects now), I'd offer $1500 and wouldn't go any higher, so it sounds like we are in agreement

I've got one of those, an 82 KZ1100 Spectre. It's got the same motor as a GPZ1100 except for the cams. Shaft drive will limit it for competition but can't be beat for every day riding. They came stock with black chrome exhaust systems. Mine looks just like your pic except for the exhaust.
A real winner in my book. I paid $2500 with 9K miles three years ago.
