I have a HF bike lift. It's got a foot pump that raises it, and I think it was $299.
Works great.
Here's a pic....

The front wheel clamp on mine SUCKS. It's ok to keep the bike from rolling off the front of the lift, but it won't keep the bike upright by itself.
On the Voyager I can just put it on the center stand, and use tie downs for added safety (2 d-rings were included with my lift). On the 900, it doesn't have a center stand, so tie downs are a must.
Also, I don't have room in my garage for two bikes AND the lift, so I always store one bike on the lift. It has a ramp that makes it easy to ride up.

I have a lift like the one in ltdrider's picture. I got it from one of those traveling tool sales people. You know the ones that come to town and set up at the local vfw or something similar. It was only 200 bucks.
The main problem I have is that it is not wide enough. If you try to ride the bike up, there is no place to put your feet down to steady the bike. If you have a buddy handy, you can roll it up and one person hold the bike while the other ties it down. I also use a small jack to lift the bike if I want to put it on the center stand. If I am by myself, I use an engine hoist to lift the bike and hold it steady while I tie it down.

Tim in order to make your life a bit easier you may want to pickup a center stand from a 900/1000 std. I bought one at Mid-Ohio last year because I have the same problem with my 1000 Classic (no centerstand). I just found two large bolts the same diameter as the shaft and when I want to work on the bike I just put it on. Bike has been sitting on it in the dining room all winter.

seller on ebay sells wheel vises like on the Handy lifts... I put one on my $200 H.F. lift and it made it much nicer.
