750 twin race bike
19 Feb 2008 20:38
Spent a little while on the phone this evening talking to a guy that races a 750 twin, thought I'd post a pic and talk about it a little.
Hmm, seems like Gwenview is having a little trouble resizing it, I'll try and add the pic later.
85 hp at the rear wheel, with cams with .585 lift, but it broke the cam chain (that's why he called). Cylinder liners removed, block bored, new aluminum (yes I said aluminum) liners with Nickisil coating pressed in. Somewhere near 900 cc (I already forgot the exact number) using JE pistons and .0005" (no, that's not a typo) piston to wall clearance. 44mm intake valves and shim under bucket (37mm buckets). Said he's been racing the bike and developing it for six years, races in a couple of classes including against modern twins, and can hold his own with the Buells, etc.
Currently removing the balance shafts to see how that's going to work since he is breaking them anyway.
Massive porting of course, and 39mm carbs (Mikuni)

Another one
He's in Canada, and have you ever seen anything good about the 750 twins printed in a bike mag? Seems to be considered the "Black sheep" of the KZ line,

Wouldn't that make them only 1mm larger than stock? How much of a difference would that make (i realize there are other factors in play  )Massive porting of course, and 39mm carbs (Mikuni)

Other factors like maybe 38mm CV carbs vs round slide 39mm carbs maybe?
J motors use 34mm CV carbs stock, and the 29mm smoothbores are considered a big upgrade.
