FWIW I removed a luggage rack and backrest from my 79 650 SR a few months back and it looked nothing like that. There is quite a bit of difference between the 2 bikes so I would have to say no it won't work. And I already sold the rack to someone in Canada so I'm no help.

I like a good backpack but don't get too many gallons of milk. Whew! If it gets too heavy I just loosen it so it sits on the seat behind me.

That's how I got across the country from Maryland to Missouri. Just a backpack and a 250 Honda Rebel.....
This should make it clear why I feel like a little more planning should be required for my next trip

The best thing I can suggest is, checking eBay and entering "luggage rack" in the keyword or item number search box.

Then when you find one that looks like it might fit and is in decent shape, shoot the seller a question asking what the dimensions of the rack are, as well as the spacing between mounting points (if those details aren't already listed in that auction).
Most (smaller) sellers are more than willing to do this if it means a potential sale. It can't hurt to ask, right? ;)

I scored a really nice "universal" luggage rack years ago for my 650B, and it only required the two front mounting holes to be elongated about 1/8" for everything to line up perfectly.
I ended up selling it to another KZr member later on, because it didn't fit the look I'm planning on going with my bike.

Just be thorough and patient in your searches. Something will eventually turn up.

This "rack" should work! It's universal and will fit any bike made! (sorry, I couldn't resist!):)

hey there. I may have some good news for you. when I bought my 78 650c, it came with a back rest/luggage rack thingy like the one in your post. If you're interested, shoot me a message and I'll send some pics and take it to UPS to get a quote on shipping. Also, I hadn't really thought about selling it until now, so look around and figure out how much you want to spend and we can work something out. maybe a trade or something.

Yea, the rack will bolt up to the front grab rail and upper shock bolts. So measure around these four bolts. Oh, and it's a DD! :woohoo:
