Today while out riding around on the SR650, I passed a group of crotch rockets. I was on a state route turning onto a side road as they where pulling off of the same side road onto the state route. Five of them took off and one stayed at the stop sign to say something to me. He was wearing full gear including a full-face helmet, so I didn't hear him at first. I asked him what he said and he yelled "You've got the real motorcycle!"
Looking back and smilling I thought, how cool was that. Here is a guy on a new (I consider anything after 1985 new) crotch rocket saying my antique is the real motorcycle. We all know that the old KZ's are real bikes, but it sure is nice to know that others think so too. He was a classy guy!

Most squids think it's cool that they've seen a "dinosaur riding a dinosaur" if I'm on my C2, H2 or my GT550.....but.....
If I'm on my Bandit....then I'm eating their lunch....
unless they're on a litre or larger squid bike....then they're eating my lunch....
But my C2 does get its share of looks and envious comments.... B)

my Z1 rides with sport bikers all the time- if they know anything about bikes- litre bikes would not be here if not for Kawi breaking the "750 I4" rule!

If you notice- there is a Gixxer 750 and 1000 there, both track/street bikes, and a Fazer 1000 (plus my old V65 as well)- the ol' Z1 got more looks by onlookers than any of the other bikes!

Way back when I lived in Southern California, R4 and I would go to bike night in Huntington Beach, and our bikes would get more attention and looks that the 90-95% newer crotch rockets that would show up. A small crowd would surround us when we were leaving, to hear our engines, and as if to say, "Oh you have to leave already?" OK maybe they weren't thinking that, but you get the idea. It's the sound of an older bike and the rattle of the cam chain, that does it.

You can buy something new, but rebuilding and bringing something older back to life means more to me. Take it apart and put it back together, but make it better than it was.

This will go right in with this thread........

Today, melvis came over to help me finish the last touches on Tangerine Dream. Wechanged out the 29smoothies with the blue KZ900 I just posted pics of to see how the Orangy ran. We run into my LITTLE town and seen several ppl on bikes. We then turn around to head back(YES, we got on the outskirts of town and ran them up to near 100 MPH) and then pulled into the driveway, 78 650 SR and 78 LTD 1000 just sitting their looking good. A man in his wife on a set of Harley's road past us(againa ctually) and they both waved, him with a big grin on his face as he turned his head going all the way past us. Shortly after that, 3 crotch rockets came flying by, the first guy way out in front. He hit the brakes and eye balled the bikes and waved.

It was nice to see the Harley guys(and gals) and the squids both waving, and grinning. You could tell they both thought it was neat to see a few old bikes sitting their looking good.

A few pics of the day.... YOU BET!

Another pic, and BTW, Tangerine Dream rides so smooth and really opens up when you lay into it. Just so you all know, watch out if you end up beside Melvis and that SR of his. We cracked into the throttles and in 5th I was pulling him on the 1000, he dropped it into 3rd as I was hitting 5th and that little bumble bee of his JUMPED out in front and held on. I would of had to go down to 4th(or even 3rd) to take the lead back). Wow, after 13 years that SR still screams. Credit Melvis for his abilities to get every little HP out of that bike she has though.
