Non KZ, but very cool and collectible. Disclaimer: I don't know the bike or seller, just want someone else to buy it so I don't!

Wes Cooley replica - now THAT's funny   Are you sure it's not a Cletus Cooley replica? For the uninitiated, here's what Wes Cooley was really riding:

The 79 GS1000S model is a very desirable machine. If it is in fact an S model......the body parts alone are worth that. Someone help me here.........If memory serves me correct...............I believe there were only 500 ever built. I am helping a friend restore one at the moment. He won't consider a trade at all for it. That would be a great purchase for someone.

Oh yeah, one other thing........a stock GS1000S could kick a KZ1000's ass all day long.

Sure looks like a gs1000s to me, aka Wes Cooley Replica. I could be wrong though, it's happened before.

Lowbuck,
Upon closer examination of the historical photos, I see that Wes Cooley actually DID have saddlebags on his Suzuki Superbike and the gas tank jacked up at a 45 degree angle when he won the championship in 1979. I suspect he had nitrous oxide tanks hidden in the saddlebags and the gas tank obviously was slanted like that to improve fuel flow. I stand corrected. :P

In your comment "a stock GS1000S could kick a KZ1000's ass all day" you misspelled the word "kiss."

kawsakiman,

16 valve Suzukis (Katanas) came out a couple years later. Wes Cooley replicas had 8 valves. Ed

16 valve Suzukis (Katanas) came out a couple years later

Actually, Ed, the first 16 valvers came out as 1980 non-Katana models. The first true Kats came out as 1982 models and used an 1100 16 valve engine with a smaller bore (~998cc) for 2 model years (82 & 83).
Some markets then got a full 1100 Katana 16 valver which was sold alongside the 1000 Kat. Suzuki's marketing department did strange things back then, mainly to homologate various models for AMA and/or FIM racing.
I owned an '82 GS750E 16 valver that, IMO, would absolutely eat the lunch of ANY KZ/GPZ 750 8 valver you could show me.....in a straight line OR around corners.
I'm still kicking myself for selling that GS.....:(
The KZ/GPZ 750's were great bikes and I know a gal that has an '82 KZ750 that I wouldn't mind owning.....but those 16 valve Suzis were absolutely unbeatable when it came to a "total bike package".
My .02....
KZ650C2 Stock/mint. Goes by "Ace".
H2A Built from a genuine basket case. Yes,it's a hot rod.
GT550A Stock/mint. Pleasant stroker.
2006 Bandit 1200S for easy LD rapid transit
Various H2 projects in the wings.

I finally gave into temptation and called the guy this morning. Unfortunately it was already sold. I couldn't help myself I let the guy know he had a pretty rare bike and told him it was one of only 650 made.   His response was well it needed a coil that would have cost $80.00 I should have been really bad and told him with a bit of work he probably could have added another zero to what he got for for the bike but I figured no sense in ruining his week. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

Appearently some of you guys were much faster back then. And some weren't even born yet. A 79 GS1000 crapped all over a KZ 1000. period.
