Hello,
I have got back into the KZ world and have bought a 1978 KZ1000. Questions are:
1. I am replacing the the 4 into 2 with a 4 into 1. I need split collars or flanges or sleeves. The old exhaust had them welded onto the header. New header has a slight flange at end that will not allow 1 piece to slip over. Dont know where to get them.
2. Bike has K&N pods and has carb jetting issues. Currently has 115 mains, clip on position 2 and stock needles. It also stock needle? jet and air screw out 1 1/4 turn.
Has Dyna ignition. Elevation is about 2500 ft.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Welcome oongow - Judging from your question, you seem to know a little more about these old bikes than some of the newer members. You'll find kzr a valuable resource and one of the best Z1-Kz suppliers is Jeff@ Z1enterprises. He has pretty much anything you need or will direct you to where you can find the parts needed. Jeff is also a walking encyclopedia of old K-bikes.

Might be a good idea to put your bike and location in your signature in case there are other members in your area that might be able to assist you in the future.

Hey oongow,
I moved your post over to the tech side, perhaps you'll get more traction over here.

If you've got a pipe that one piece flanges won't fit over something's really wrong. I suggest that you find some stock exhaust flanges and see if they won't work. I can't imagine that they wouldn't unless you've got a really strange pipe you're trying to mount.

Never heard of two piece flanges.

My Kerkers have a two piece thingy that goes around the pipe, and the flange presses on them. Maybe that's what he's referring to.

Yes, that is what i'm talking about. I heard that the kerker used these. The pipe is a Marving from Americanclassix.com. They show split sleeves or thingies or whatever on their site but you have to buy the flanges and all at a buck fifty ($150)I did cut the sleeves off the old pipes today with some success. I am getting some leaks at the cylinder as I had thought I needed to shorten the sleeves. The more beer, the shorter they got. Pipe sounds and looks gret other than needing the new ones.
