Colour wise, its not oem. I think it was repainted when the owner bought the bikini all those decades ago. 

But it doesn't look 'bad' in burgundy.

Idk. The oem colours look good too. Blue is striking. The red is more reare from what I understand.

In the meantime time the z250b badges are just sitting here, waiting to be put on lol


 

Today, i took off the cam chain tensioner and gave it a good seeing to.

also did a carb synchronization just because I can. There is something almost H.R.Giger looking about a bike getting a carb sync.

Took it out for a little shake down ride (on private property of course). Man, I forgot how much fun these chassis are. The way it corners is so much fun. Stops on a dime too. And the engine sound is sweet music to my ears.

Will check the valves next once the engine cools properly. 

cant wait to get this on the road. 

Was just cleaning up a bit and ended up going deep into the depths of my tool boxes. I found these. They came with the bike. Pretty neat. I forgot I had them.

We’re looking at a truly superb restoration here,great work with a logical progression and a great story behind it. Absolutely perfectly done! Congratulations!

For me personally, a real candidate for BotM !!!


BTW: I couldn't find that z250 Kawa with the front drum brake anywhere—what model year is it?

Its not perfect, some spots are still a bit rough, but i like it all the same.

Its a 1980

  Remarkable job on a rare bike.  Fortunate that it had good bones to start with.  Doesn't have to be perfect; there's lots to be said for honest patina and paint from the day.  It's gotta be fun to scoot around on.

yeah its been very rewarding. ive got two other restoration projects to get stuck into once I get this one on the road.

But im always looking for another bike with good bones to bring back to life

While considering what colour to paint her, I've come to find nos for the fuel tank badges are hard to come by. If I can get a pair ill go brilliant blue.  Otherwise, if I have to keep these on the bike, ill just re spray it the same colour.

Why not remove them? Turns out they are very old and very, very brittle.  I dont believe they would survive removal.

After staring at them for a while I decided to try and restore them as best I can. After I cleaned them, i took a photo. The white does pop a lot more.

Another after applying black. A fine brush, a little paint and a lot of time go a long way. Not perfect, but better.
