New tyres on my Kz 750 E1 1980

Hi all , yesterday went to the garage to have a new tyre fitted, and I  knew it had a tube in the old tyre but told the fitter that these rims are tubeless,  anyway he had to refit the old inner tube back into the new tubeless tyre as he didn't have the correct size tyre valve,  iI don't like this idea really so when I  get the back tyre changed I'm wanting to get hold of a pair of tyres valves that fit , looking around on the forum and elsewhere looks like I need 8.3mm valves is this correct , I've found a couple that look Ok .on ebay etc.
thanks again for any help.
Phil

That looks to me like a "tubeless" valve for a "spoked/chrome" rim. Valves for alloy rims are normally a "barbed all rubber construction that "pulls" through the rim. (see below) I believe they are a pretty standard item so would question what your tyre fitter has told you !!!!
PS: the tubes may have been fitted because there is corrosion on the rim stopping the beads sealing correctly ?

Hi there wasn't really any corrosion to see on the rims , and he did have the normal type in your picture but I think  they were a larger diameter as used on cars, I'm sure that when I  last got tyre fitted to a Zx9r I  owned they just fit  standard valves , I had these type of wheels on a Z550  in the 80s with metzeller me99 tyres fitted and i carnt remember having tubes in them , but that's a long time ago LOL.
M&P show them in 8.3 mm like in your picture but out of stock.
Thanks again Phil

The OEM valve stems follow JIS 430 standard. I personally like the all rubber type better, but I'm not sure if the hole in the wheel matches.

Thanks Ed, every day is indeed a school day :) can't say I've ever seen "bolt in" valves used on alloy rims - if 8.3mm is correct they are out there

As long as the thickness is correct for the wheel, the rubber part should work.

I found these also on Ebay,  I  think I'll  be ordering a couple , looks like my rims hole diameter is 8.3 mm and the most common is 11.5mm standard on most cars .
Also I've  been looking at getting a new rear tyre and to match the new front one they only do it in 120/80/18 as apposed to 120/90/18 do you  think the height measurement will cause any issues.
Thanks again Phil

The difference in "wall height" is 12mm (10% of the width) so the overall diameter of the wheel will be 24mm smaller, I don't think this would have a significant impact on the way the bike "rides" but it will increase you highway revs to achieve the same speed with a smaller wheel

I had some 90 degree all metal stems on my Concours, and loved them. It was very easy to check and adjust pressures. Here are some fancy ones.

Metal valve stems are required for racing in my local race org. I run them on all my bikes now - street or track. I also like the 90 degree valve stems, easier to check pressure without burning yourself on a hot brake disc.
