So I bought the 73 Z1 from madkaw500 that he picked up from a friend of his dads. see ( "what to do" post in the wanted section). I'm not sure who the idiot is, me or the previous owner. It's safe to say I am starting with a frame and engine cases, and I have my doubt about the cases. Wish me luck

Hi GergZ,
It took a few seconds for the eyebolts to sink in. LOL! And the classy ground-wires-under-the-bolts. *gag*

The hose into the pod was called a "dippendoider" IIRC. If you trace it back it should terminate in a "ganuuder valve". The hot setup was to have an adjustable, genuine faux-real "muffler bearing" too. Been a looong time since we've seen that setup :silly:

After we completed our '73 Euro basket case resto last year we've been lusting after a project to keep us entertained the coming winter. Something like you have there would do it, and comic relief seems built-in...

Ummm... and they drilled holes in the sprocket cover because...?

Because whoever owned this bike is a F'n idiot

I had to use a 10mm 7/16" and yep a 1/2" wrench to take the cam holders off.

Nice to see max effort going into saving an early 73 Z1. I'll track the thread with great interest. Clearly everything needs to be touched so the thread will be a masters degree in saving what could have easily been salvage.

The frame has nine yep 9 holes drilled in it two are for an incorrect horn. The seat latch bracket needs repaired along with the cracked frame in the common area around the steering neck.

so far I found four busted engine case bolts that will need to be extracted. Wish me luck



This is the best the Z1 has looked in years !!
