79 ST Build
25 Aug 2015 15:08 - 25 Aug 2015 15:27
Hi guys, thought I'd start a thread for this bike I recently decided to work on. Forgive me for not having a service manual yet. I've been burned before on title work and am not spending a dime until the title is in my hands. The amount of stuff missing off this roller is staggering. I'm sure it was parted out at one time, but there is enough still here to work with. Try not to laugh at it to much.
title paper work has been sent off , just waiting now. Engine is stuck atm, filled cylinders with MMO and put plugs back in. Tried to rock back and forth with trans in gear, nada.

I dug through some old parts boxes in the garage, came across some stuff I could possibly work with.

No just the rolling chassis and engine. Wheels, brakes, instruments and controls are all there. Missing is coils, CDI/Igniter, key switch, tank, seat, sides, and tail piece. Oh yeah, and the exhaust, and the shifter/trans cover. Carbs are gone too, About the tank, I've been looking and see that maybe an A model tank will fit this bike. The stock one looks way to boxy for my liking, maybe even a Police model tank. Been looking at the aftermarket stuff too. A Dyna 2000 would take care of the coils, wires and CDI plus it would be programmable. One of the reasons I'm considering doing this is because the bike has 3 disc brakes, mag wheels and shaft drive. Again this is all planning stages, seeing whats available from who. Title was filed Monday, so we shall see.

Tank, tail and side cover mounts are all different for the ST and the chain drive models.
The frame on the chain drive where the tank mounts is wider, you'd have to make new mounts for the tank
