Re: 1981 J model Endurance racer
02 Mar 2015 06:50as long as your stem is the same height above the lower triple as it was on the kz they seem to work out okay.

In yet another change in plans, I have chosen another rear wheel. The JMC arm is over the Atlantic somewhere right now. It is basically set up for a stock wheel.. I bought a pranged Bandit 400 just for the rear wheel.. It has a 17x4 back wheel and I needed the spacers and caliper hanger/torque arm anyway, so 150 bones seems like a good deal. (I can prolly make that back by selling the good bits left over) Bandit 400s run a 150 rear, and maybe a 160 will fit, I am cool with either. I one put a 160 on the back of a 500 interceptor, so anything is possible.
The only problem is that it uses a 17mm axle as apposed to the KZ/JMC 20mm item. I will turn down two spacers with a 17mm I.D. and 20mm O.D. to make it all work. Believe it or not, the center to sprocket dimensions are rather close, so there shouldn't be much fiddling.
If it would just stop snowing, I could wrench instead of type..........

Can I convince you to paint it flat black?

eBay to the rescue....turns out 17mm i.d. x 20mm o.d. sleeves are easy enough to source. I'll just turn them down to the correct width.

a big box was slid under my door this morning
what's winter good for? Mock ups. Too bad this is just the mock up wheel. because it all fits, doesnt need any spacers made or altered and it centered itself with great chain alignment.
Disregard footrest, it was just an idea
Love this arm. Not sure about shocks. The are supposed to be the same length as stock KZ, but they look too short.

Looks like I'll need at least 14" shocks if I dont move the upper mounts. I was hoping to use those Sportster-Sport shocks because they are Showa with full Compression and Rebound adjustments, despite the ugliness.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationglad you finally received your arm sir.it's always nice to get those big puzzle pieces to move on to the next stage.
any way i could get you to measure the front support of your under brace and tell me how long it is?
sounds like you should be looking for some
for that extra length.

Those shocks look good, although pricy. I can't figure out why it sits do low, unless the bottom mount is father back. I'll post all the dimensions and we can check.
I remain a bit frightened of speed bumps.

The forward brace is 7.5" from where it is welded on the bottom to the end. Strange that the shock mounts are the same (18" from pivot to mount) as stock. Now looking for 14.75" shocks (360mm)
And now I am fretting the stance when I put a low profile 17" Tyre on the back. I will loose an inch from the 130/80/18 to a 160/70/17. Damn.

I need advice:
If I go to a 17 inch rear, I get good tyre choice, and a slightly wider rim. If I stay with what I've got, no spacers/milling needs to be done.
The only problem is I will loose roughly an inch on ride height in the back between the 18 and a low profile 17. The 18 will have a 140 and the 17 a 150 or possibly a 160.
I'm stuck. what do you think?
