Sorry to hear about your troubles David.
That is the reason I only want an old school fuel tap.
On or Off, nothing else.

Leon I do not know how long the rod is I did not measure it.

Long time,no postie.
So,back to it.Fuel tap has been stripped, cleaned and refitted (again).Ill check for puddles in the morning.
As for the clutch, hydraulics stripped off and cable system refitted. New friction plates, steel plates checked and passed, new springs ,basket teeth de-grooved, new oil, new cable (genuine K), swirly pushy thing stripped, cleaned, greased and refiitted, everything adjusted according to the clymer book and it still dosnt feel right!!!!!!!!!!!
Ill take it out for a bimble tomorrow and if I cant get it sorted Im going to throw in the towel and take it to my local bike shop and pay them to do it for me!
Aghh! ,did I say that out loud?

You must be very desperate if you have to bring it to a shop.
But sometimes this is the only thing to do.
Get someone with a fresh look at it and maybe find a solution you have been overlooking.
Hope you can still enjoy a some nice days of riding.

Well the clutch is still not right but its a hell of lot 'righter' than the hydraulic set up. It is still sticking through some gear changes and it will go into neutral but not smoothly. I think its down to the cable routing and tension. Im sure once thats sorted, itll be fine.
On the down side, the fuel tap/carb No.4 is leaking again. Ive ordered a new set of float needles and seats.I also dumped a capful of fuel additive into the tank,on the advise of my local shop.
One thing that is noticeable now,is that the bike goes like ;'S**t off a blanket!' What a kick it has. Very quick indeed. Not sure if its down to the new cable or the fuel additive or a combination of both.
So, motivation is almost restored but when the needles arrive,Im gong to drop the bike into the shop and let them do it. Ive had enough, I have to get back to real life.

Ok. Gpz750 needles arrived,so theyre not going to work. What about,if I swap the float needle and seat from the leaky No.4 carb with the non leaky No.1 carb? To see what happens. Ill give that a go then.

So, I reordered the float needles and they came in a couple of weeks ago. I had some time/inspiration to have a go at them today.

While I was busy fitting them, I was thinking about a photo someone had posted of his broken float pivot post( I think you would call it) and his question of what to do? How to fix it?
What a bummer,I thought. Glad I dont have to deal with that!!
So,being 2017,the universe saw its opportunity.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lucky bugger that I am, it didnt break all the way off and there is still enough meat on it to hold the pivot pin. So, Im hoping Ive gotten away with it. Time will tell.

Also I noticed this

My tank is not as clean as I thought it was. This could explain why my vacuum tap is jamming open. What to do about it though. What is a fool proof way to clean a tank?

and on a different note.I bought myself a present (finally)

I can now get them pesky chisels sharpened up .
Thats it for now

Hi David,
Glad to see your are working on the bike again.
Strange that something can brake of at such a place where there is no force or vibration.
I cleaned my tank with Coke (the drink not the powder)
Filled it up with 18 ltrs of the cheapest i could find and let it stay for a couple of days.
Flushed it a couple of times with gasoline and looks brand new.

Hey Eric, the post in the carb broke because I was trying to pinch up the pivot pin after installing the new float needles. Totally my own fault. As for the tank, I already cleaned it with brown vinegar (Lidels finest),flushed out with soda then a quick misting with WD40. It should be spotless. Then again, I spent some time giving it a well overdue wash the other day and I found this;
Very disheartening.
Also,this is how the rest of the bike was looking;

I gave it all a good wash but I wasnt going to fuck around repolishing nuts and bolts on the street,in Holland,in December!!
So I dabbed a load of vaseline on the worst offenders,a bit of oil here and there and the bike has now gone off to storage for the winter.
So, thats it. No more Zedery for me until the springtime.
(I still have a Bandit to keep on the road and theres always the RC17 if the mood strikes me)

Spring has sprung. The bike arrived back from storage the morning and as I had a day off,I got stuck right in.
On the to-do list, the fuel system is the big job. The fuel petcock wasnt shutting off and fuel was pouring out of carb No. 4, all over the engine, making a mess of the uncured PJ1 on the crank cases. A good clean of the petcock and a rebuild kit didnt sort it out. I replaced the float needles in all four carbs and put the bike in storage.
I reckon the problem is rust in the tank (though I did clean it with vinegar which seemed to work well and it looks clean enough. I cant think of another reason for the vacuum diaphram to stick open, other than dirt getting in there.) Today,I pulled off the petcock and the fuel level sensor and plugged the holes and this time Im going with cheap cola. See how that works. Ill give the petcock another clean and polish tomorrow. Ive been advised to flush the tank out with diesel ,after the cola has done its job.If that dosnt work,I have no idea what else to try (apart from a Non Vacuum petcock)

Other things on the to-do list are to shorten the cluch cable and get that set up and operating properly.
Some sort of tidy strap/lock thing to hold the battery in place ( Im just using a bit of inner tube at the moment)
And sort out the messed up engine paint.
And a good clean overall
Thats it.
