I should have the last big pieces minus rotors (not sure what I need yet) today and tomorrow. Once I get all the items received, I'll have a small preview so not to keep everyone waiting too long.
I'm trying to finish up the rear before moving on to the front but we'll see how strong my will power is when I get home tonight.

So I may have copied (or at least heavily borrowed) from Les Holt's upper shock design. But it seemed like the best design and solution for my problem.
I made a couple bungs for the upper shock bolt. The tubes will then be welded to the bungs and then to the original shock crossmember and another spot to be determined.
Tomorrow's goal is tube notching and maybe some tack welds if I'm lucky.

I started late today with a 51" long piece of 7/8" x .065" 4130 Chromoly. About an hour later, I got one tube done and tacked in. I started the other lower tube, only to cut it a bit short so I gave up for the day.
And a nice parting shot...

I should be able to reuse the piece on one of the shorter lengths. So I'll really only waste about 1.5" or so.
I really want to get the other three tubes fitted tonight so I can move to the front end.

Doug looking great.....
Question....at what angle did you weld the bottom shock mounts
im also working on mine and im undecided on the angles.....the angle on the gsxr frame are level with the frame but i cant do that on the kz frame.

I make the mounts however they have to be in order to keep the bolt as close as possible to the same location relative to the pivot bolt. Pointed up, down, or level all depends on where the Kz cross-member is based upon the donor's suspension pick-up points.

So I remade the right side lower tube but I'm not sure how I like the angle. I have it almost against the frame but because the shock is offset, it's at a different angle from the left side. I kinda want the tubes to be symmetrical but I also want them to attach roughly at the same points near the frame.
Thoughts?

For looks I would go with the left the same angle as the right. Structurally I don't have a clue!

I believe it is better as pictured, both attaching to the frame near the braces. If you moved the right hand one in, there would be alot of forces directed to middle of the Tube giving an uneven distribution
