Well its got a mk11 alt& cover, valve cover, sprocket cover, igntion cover. So i would guess its a mk11 motor some 79s and the 80s ltds had mk11 engines. Mine is a mk11 motor Look to see if its got two triangle web reinforcements behind the oil fill hole. But pretty sure its mk11, Which is great news for you. in my opinion best motor to build. Stronger everything: crank, trans, cases.

The 79 ltds got most of the mkII stuff other than the crank, which is total overkill for a streetbike and probably 75% of the small tire dragbikes out there.
The ltds got the big crank in 80 also B)

so your saying they updated the whole engine in 79 but not the crank until 80? How did they did the stator and rotor? I was under the imprssion when it had the new style alt it had to be on a mk11 crank since the ends are diffrent diameter.

Ive done a little searching into it in the past trying to see if the charging stuff from the 79 1000 ltd could could be used on the 78 motors.
I remember some part numbers being the same, let me see if I saved that stuff on my computer. B)

Well i believe the mk11 cranks are called big end cranks and the others are small end. Also the 77s still use a woodriff key and the mk11s dont if iam not mistaken. I think i have heard of people running mk11 stators on kz cranks, but seems like i was told it keep twisting them off. Any way nice bike lushbaugh i would be happy to have that sitting in my garage.

the mk11 has a dif taper, so it will not accept any other rotor. i run a mk11 crank in kz900 cases.
the kz900 uses the woodriff keyed crank with the small bolt like the Z1's. count the teeth on the cam sprockets. kz= 30 , MK11 = 32 teeth.

thanks very much powerstroke i have a lot of time into it and a lil coin. i do most all my own work so it feels good to hear compliments and i wasnt sure on the motor being a mk11 or not. its hard to tell and i know they say the stator is two year only eventho it looks identical to many others. id love to know what all i really got before i tear into it adding things but theres only one way to kno.....
