After carefully reading the instructions an applying as directed. I realized the guys writing the instructions neve stripped paint/powdercoat from a rough cast wheel. so allowing an hour to soften old paint manages to get a little coooperation, but probably gonna hit the paint supply and buy the brush on version and allow teice the time for it to work.

My axle showed up today which is always good hope to see the swingarm by friday. Collecting the parts is half the fun.

I was thinking about painting the inside of the wheel and polishing to the rough cast. Polished aluminum is alot of work keeping it up and the center is such a dirty place any suggestions? Other than If if I dont want to keep it clean dont do it.

yeah it looked like alot of work when i watched my brother strip his wheels  .
i remember thinking that the spray on stripper didn't work as well as i thought it should :( .
but the good news is that the wheels looked polished underneath already.
polished lips and colored centers look good,a little bling but dont have to polish around any spokes :) .they are fairly easy keepers like that.

I've never tried this, but it's got me wondering, would a hard sponge wheel that goes on a drill, work for this?

Attachment 3m-company-9099-lrg-paint-rust-stripper.jpg not found

I've used wire brush wheels in the past to take off rust and such, and that takes me down to bare metal. I figure that would be too abrasive for this application, but the course sponge wheel would seem way less damaging to the aluminum. Any thoughts? Or has anyone tried it?

Gonna stop at the paint store today and get some brush on stripper. I have one of those 3M wheels I may end up useing it on the hub it is pretty rough cast.did a little youtube research last night it seems the chemical reaction only lasts for 10-20 minutes so if it doesnt lift the paint after a few minutes you need to reapply it.

the lip and edge towards the center wont take alot to polish. it looks like the spokes, hub, and center strip will require hours of wet sanding, but i think will be worth it. Really dont want to paint the center.

I've used those 3M plastic wheels to remove paint from brick. They are tougher than they look, and if you're not careful they will wear away the brick very quickly. I believe they would be too abrasive for alloy wheels and would scar them up. Ed

my thoughts also got a few tips from the body shop today. It seems as if every store in Evansville isn't carrying the aircraft paint stripper dont know if it's a EPA thing or just unlucky day shopping. bought some stuff that says it will strip Epoxy and all paint so we will see. gonna run out and give it a quick try

ok this stuff works pretty wellgot it at Lowes 10.00 worked 300 times better than the rustoleum aircraft paint stripper aerosol (9.00 bucks a can @ walmart) neither one seems to do anything to the rough cast part of the wheel.

the Nitrile gloves or better are needed this stuff burns like fire if you get it on you where as the aerosol might burn a little nothing like this stuff.

You might want to try using a really stiff plastic brush with that stripper. If you look in the bathroom tile department of Home Depot they sell a stiff plastic or nylon brush for cleaning bathroom grout. I would think it would be stiff enough to scrub off the softened pain without damaging the alloy. Ed
