Hi,

Looking to have the best 1982 ELR clone possible.

I have a 1982 GPZ1100 that have already a Kerker 4 in 1 and also a ELR seat. The motor will need a top end rebuilt and no 100% sure of the reliability of the fuel injection unit.

I have also a 1981 KZ1000J that is complete but in parts. Motor seams to be good so I would like to switch the following it in the GPZ. Also the upper triple tree in order to have standard handle bar instead of the clip on. The instrument cluster would be it also in the GPZ.

Since I'm changing from Fuel injection to carbs, I'm switching the comlete wiring harnest. This will help also for the instrument cluster.

Is there somebody who had done this before? I think this will be an "easy" switch but is there something I'm missing.

Thanks for your advise!
Joce

The motor should mount easily, the ELR is based on a KZ1000 J motor.

The motors will swap no problem. The carbs are also a easy swap. 79 and up motors will swap but if you put 79 and up motor in a 78 and older frame you have to fabricate the front motor mounts. The old motors have two mounts in the back and one up front. The newer motors have two mounts in the front.

rebuild the gpz motor top end and put the carbs off the other j motor you have on it.

Well the idea was to do a replica of the kz1000r so would have like to have the 1000cc engine if possible.

Is there a major difference between those two engine?

I was in the idea that the GPZ was the same engine of the 1000 expect bigger bore?

Use the GPZ cams in the J head. Better performance.

no one will be able to tell its a 1100 unless they look at the code. personally i'd go with the 1100 since your really just making a replica of a replica.

Frank I was kinda thinkin the same thing. Hey Joce,You probably would be the only one to know about the block anyway (really -who's going to get down on their knees to check right?). And if someones looking at it to buy they probably would know its not a #matching replica anyway(frame # and Motor #)

Thanks for your comments everyone.

The reason why I'm questioning which motor I should chosse is that I will powdercoat the frame, so will have to put out the motor anyway.

I'll dto a good leak check on the 1000cc motor to see if it's good. It will be easier to decide with the results. Well I think....

Joce ,the difference is torque and horsepower. The 1000J and R both produced 102 hp and 67ft-lb of torque. The 1100 GPZ produced 100 hp and 71ft-lbs of torque. jcote75 wrote:
