Hey, I'm at it again...

Well, I've dismantled the front end of my bike and I'm currently retro-fitting a 92' GSXR 1100 USD fork / wheel / calipers to my 83' 1100 LTD.

They look mean!!! I'll post pics as soon as I can...

I wanted to share a little trick I learned when doing all of this. I know some of you have discussed using your steering stem from your old triple to mount in the GSXR triple. THERE'S A BETTER WAY!!! Use the stem from a Suzuki GSxxxx. This stem is the right length, and the roller bearings are actually an upgrade from the ball bearing units that come stock.

When you use this stem, you do not have to worry about adding material to the base of the stem with flux or some kind of bushing. It is already the proper diameter.

I am in the process of machining / welding up my top triple right now. I did away with the incandescent indicator lights. I am replacing them with panel mount LEDs that will bolt directly into the triple for a nice, clean look.

I am also adding some aluminum risers so that I can use a real bar. While I like the look of the clip-ons, they are just too forward and low for my riding habits.

The only problem I'm having right now is with mounting up the ignition. What have some of you done to get it to mount properly? Did you switch over to the GSXR ignition switch? I just picked one up on eBay, but the GSXR ignition has two less leads .... ??????

I cut the ignition switch ring off the triple clamp and ground it out until the Kawasaki switch would fit in. You'll find the Suzuki ignition switch bolts are larger so the Kawasaki switch will have to be drilled out. I found because of the reduced offset in the triple clamps, I had to cut the fork lock off the frame, add a couple of spacers to lower the switch and grind out the back of the switch where the fork lock is to clear the bearing cover. But, I didn't have to screw with the wiring!

Well, I'm getting closer!

My front end is on, and mocked up. I got the new rim powder coated and assembled and a new set of Metzlers.

Here's a few pics of the GSXR 1100 front end, my "custom" risers, custom handlebars, and my gaige cluster ripped off from a Kaw Vulcan.

I still have a lot of work left to do, but what do you think?

I also have a 4 into 1 drag pipe, a custom Corbin saddle, a new hayabusa headlight, custom led indicator panel, "duck-tail" conversion, new turn signals... all left to install this summer.

When she's all put together in a sufficient manner, I have to strip it all back down to the frame and re-powdercoat everything. And I mean everything! Frame, calipers, block, heads, exhaust (ceramic not powder), rear rim, fork tubes, etc...
