Hello, and thank you for the add

Hello,
i recently picked up my first KZ440, actually my first grown up bike, as i havent owned a bike since i was a kid, and havent ridden. Since i was in my twenties (way too long ago, lol)... so i picked up a 1981 KZ440 as a project. The previous owner had started to bob the frame, so I finished that up and when i went to buy a new handlebar for it, I got to talking with the man selling it and it turned out he had picked up a 1982 kz440 Ltd as a covid project that he never got to. I had one to work on already, but a couple days later, he texted me an offer i couldnt refuse, so now I have two KZ440 projects, lol.
The first bike had no title, but.the second one is titled and really quite clean... just missing a few parts from the previous owner starting to disasemble it. I am planning to use the best parts between them to finish out the 1982, then gets parts here and there to finish the 81.... i expect i will be on here regularly as i wrestle with leaning the ins and outs of these bikes.

16 Aug 2026 05:56 - 16 Aug 2026 06:01Classic symptoms of an infection by an obscure mind virus known as The Dreaded Z-Bug.Hello,
i recently picked up my first KZ440 ... as a project. ... I had one ... already, but ... offer i couldnt refuse, ... now I have two KZ440 projects, lol.
Z-bike ownership is the cause; it only takes one. Ownership of 2 or more Z-bikes accelerates development of symptoms. "Just one more... just one more... " is a typical response to Z-Bug exposure.
No one knows where it came from. Standard Citizens don't care.
We know how it goes. Those so inflicted with Z-Bug are subconsciously compelled in a futile attempt to self-medicate by gathering more & more Z-bikes, Z-parts, Z-manuals... all manner of Z-stuff and arcane Z-knowledge.
There's no known cure. Trust the science on this one.
Welcome to The aZylum, a comfy little air-cooled corner of interwebs Motorcycle Madness, populated by others living life with Z-Bug. Here we're free to speak peacefully among ourselves about all things Z-bike.
