Thanks for letting me join the forum I'm DustyDeck and I have a KZ650 with MODS
Yesterday 11:48 - Yesterday 15:11
My KZ650 has the GPZ750 oil cooler and oil pan along with 26 mm Mikuni smoothbore carbs, K&N pods and Vance and Hines 4 into one. Inside my KZ650 it has a Ninja 600 6 speed transmission with the Dyna coils and ignition. I'm having trouble dialing in the carbs but I'm getting close 117.5 mains, 15 pilots and the jet needles are in the 3rd position. The carbs are backfiring. I'm guessing its a lean miss. I plan to check the float hight and dropping the needle jets to the 2 position. Any sugestions would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone

NICE bike. Welcome!
Those carbs are most likely VM24's. Not VM26. And NOT smoothbores, which start at VM29.
You can tell because 26's have a smooth carb body on the outside, and 22/24's have ribs, like yours.

When running without the stock air box you need to fit air corrector jets to cure the off idle lean spot, leave the pilot jet and needle position STOCK ( 4th groove from top) and just increase the main jet..
117.5 mains are miles too big..
For the vm24 you need to go up from 102.5 to 105 mains..
