Looking for information on getting/making a key for a 1977 KZ750
The bike was a Barnfind. Bought for $500
Cleaned up good.
Dont want to put more money into it unless I can get a key.
Whats the best process?
Any ideas

Remove ignition lock, go to locksmith, get key made.  I watched a guy do this for my old GS450, and he filed a key in less than 10 minutes.

The above is the best solution but an alternative is to remove the ignition and replace it with one with a key.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

a key is still needed for the seat lock and helmet lock if it has one. assuming they're all keyed the same and he doesn't have the key for those either.

To the op. the ignition switch may have a code stamped into it. either a locksmith or rstnick should be able to cut a key from that code. stock: the seat lock and helmet lock would have had matching codes. ps: in case it needs to be said. get a couple of spares. when I first learned to ride. I lost both keys during a move. no internet back then. so it was a pain.

Maybe I'm just cynical in my old age but sending my key number and address to a stranger would make me nervous, there have been instances of dealer staff "cloning" keys on vehicles being serviced then selling the key and address some time later
