stalling engine
18 May 2025 19:21
Hello all,
Hopefully someone on this forum can help me. I've had my bike to two different shops and they can't solve the problem. I have a 82 GPz 1100, I'm the second owners since 1993 and went with my buddy when he bought it new. The problem is after riding a while and stopping briefly like getting gas, it'll start up and idle fine but as soon as you give it any gas it kills, and it'll keep doing this until it cools down, then I can ride it again until I shut it off.
It does cut-out under heavy throttle for maybe a second, this feels electrical and may not be related? One shop thought it might be a faulty temperature sensor and replaced it with no difference. They also tried a different ECM with no change, but it could have been bad too. They also tried sending it to someone in Florida (I'm in Minnesota) to rebuild but they couldn't for some reason. They told me this was the first cycle they could not repair and didn't charge me anything. I have brought them plenty of other work.
The second shop, Blue Cat motorcycles in St Paul has had it going on two years. They told me they had it fixed and went to pick it up and as soon as I gave it any gas it killed, you would think they would have test rode it. Now they won't even return my calls. It's been there so long it's hard to remember but they did install a new fuel pump, clean and coat the inside gas tank, rebuilt all the brakes and put on the original exhaust.
Can anyone help me? I'm to the point of selling it now.
Thank you.
